Honorary Life Members &
Honor Roll of Champions

Honorary Life Members

The CYC Bylaws simply state that an Honorary Life Member is “One who is so elected by the unanimous vote of the Board;  there may not be more than ten Honorary Life members at any one time.”  While the Bylaws do not set out any particular criteria for this honor, a review of those few who have been so recognized are those individuals who have selflessly given of their time, energy, and fiscal support of the Club without any expectation of reward. These members are the outlier achievers who are frequently the first to volunteer for any project or event and/or are widely recognized for extraordinary sailing accomplishments.  These individuals have clearly demonstrated long term and/or exceptional service to the CYC Seattle and/or the greater yachting community.

The Honor Roll of Champions recognizes CYC members who have won national or international championships or have achieved honors of an equivalent level. The Honor Roll was created in 1995 by the Monday Lunch Group – with instructions to be as inclusive as possible – “The Honor Roll of Champions should evoke memories, pride, chuckles, tales and lies for those who check it out. Let as many as possible have their day in the sun.  Members are elected by the Board, taking several elements into consideration, including the event and depth of field, both numerical and sailing strength.

National and International Champions

The preamble to the Honor Roll reads as follows:

This Honor Roll lists all known national and international championships and other honors of an equivalent level earned by CYC members since the club’s founding in 1945. Displayed is the name of each CYC champion, the title or award earned by the member, and the year in which it was awarded.
