Virtual Monday Lunch - March 15

When CYC Staff Commodore John Rahn wanted a new custom race boat for short-handed sailing, he contacted local yacht designer Paul Bieker. Join us to hear about the design and build of this exciting new boat, the Longtail 30, from Paul and John. The boat is being primarily built by Emerald Marine with some of the build by Bieker Boats.

John wanted certain characteristics for his new boat and the primary goals were:

• Ultralight Sailboat Performance without relying on the crew for ballast
• Easy handling with 1 to 3 crew
• Comfortable and protected cockpit ergonomics (no hiking required)
• Efficient computer-aided one-off construction with minimized waste
• Strategic use of composites to simplify structure and minimize weight
•  Maximum performance to cost (spend money where the gains are significant, be frugal where they are not)
