2nd Thursday Cruising Social Potluck - join cruisers at the first social after the summer break!
Paul Vanderspek will talk about his family’s cruise to Desolation Sound this summer with his wife Kathleen, and kids Anneke (7), and Rogan (4) aboard “Honeymoon” their 46 foot Hylas.
Here are some excerpts from Paul’s description of their cruise:.
"We didn’t originally plan to make it to Desolation but based on recommendations we decided to go for it, and do more of a cruising sampler if you will as it was our first time. Our diesel is not the quietest. The kids hole up in the forward stateroom, and I feel the thrum of the engine. We tried to stick to ~4 hour days max to keep the kids from going totally crazy. We made it as far north as Prideaux Haven, stopping at Pender Harbor on the way there and Hornby Island on the way back. Tribune Bay beach is a must see next time you’re up there. We did get some sailing in on the way back down from Nanaimo. We stayed at the Nanaimo Yacht Club on the 10th and then again on the 16th on the way back, since it was full at the public marina. They were nice at the yacht club only charging $5 first time, letting us stay extra long to wait out the weather the second time at no extra charge. We got back via Montague Harbor, Doe Bay and Edmonds. Our home port is Elliott Bay Marina. We used the CBP roam app to clear customs, which worked super well, avoiding a stop in Friday Harbor/Roche where we spent plenty of time on the way up."
