Understanding the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) as they apply at the start can be daunting. There are rules that apply only at the start, there are exceptions to other rules for the start, and the start is where you have to apply the rules to the largest number of boats at the same time. What are the key things to remember? What rules are broken most often at the start – and why?

This program will help clarify the rules that apply, giving practical rules of thumb to help keep you out of trouble and to give you the knowledge you need to keep others from getting an unfair advantage. If you have a particular scenario that bothers or confuses you, please submit a description of it to Charlie Macaulay (cmacaulay@centurytel.net) a week before the presentation and we’ll try to address it directly during the presentation.
