In the Box and Off the Rocks: Mark Philiposian Navigation Talk

CYC member Mark Philiposian will present on the Art of Navigation based on his many years’ experience as a submarine navigator. He is a retired Master Chief Electronics Technician (Navigation) from the US Navy, serving on TRIDENT, SEAWOLF, and 688i class submarines. 

He’ll cover the topic of navigation from a perspective that you probably haven’t heard from before. Mark will discuss how submarines navigate with and without external fix sources to include:

• Why submarines don’t know where they are and why that doesn’t matter
• Why your chart is wrong
• GPS lies, damn lies, and statistics
• How to figure out the “FUGAWIS”
