Update on the City Council and Leschi Vote

Thank you all who weighed in with the Seattle City Council regarding the lease for the Leschi and Lakewood Marinas. From the tone of the discussion, it is clear that our voices have been heard. The fight, however, is not yet over – our Lake program is closer to safe but we are not yet there.

Adjustments made in the lease and design specifics (published 7/18) are heartening and very much in line with the statement in the Lease: Tenant is committed to accommodating the small boat tradition and programs and expanding opportunities for boaters and non-boaters to use the marines and area waters.     (Article 31.01 p2)

That said, the outcome of the July 20 meeting was to table the vote yet again. It has been moved to the August 3rd and 10th agenda.

Prior to this next meeting, conversation and negotiations are continuing between Marina Management LLC and Seattle Parks and Recreation representatives (and likely other City entities) regarding “new” sticking points – City oversight of Moorage Rates, City backstopping cost overruns in course of construction.

Continuing to keep the value of the Leschi assets in the forefront of the Council members minds will help. If you have not yet expressed your support there is still time. You’re welcome to join Liesl at in the council chambers and encourage a final final vote on 8/10 at 9:30.

The comments by Mary Anne Ward, Executive Director of Sail Sand Point (time stamp 7:07) and Chloe Vlases, 13yo CYC member (@9:00) are absolutely worth watching!

This meeting include very informed questions and comments from Councilperson Sally Bagshaw, former J24 fleet member.

Comments from Dwight Jones, Marina Management LLC representative at time stamp 2:04:30 (4 minutes) are the heart of the matter.
