Racing Abandoned for Saturday October 15
NOTICE (2:30pm, Friday, October 14:)
CYC PSSC Small Boat racers and crew,
Matthew Wood here, CYC Race Fleet Captain, thank you for registering for our PSSC Event. Ultimately you make it happen, and we appreciate you signing up!
As I’m sure you know, the weather models for this weekend are looking potentially dire. The USCG Sector Puget Sound Commandant has urged the cancelation of all “non-essential” marine events for Saturday, October 15. We of course are adhering to this recommendation.
NOTICE: ALL Puget Sound Sailing Championship and J/24 Western Regional RACING FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15 IS ABANDONED.
The USCG expressed very real concerns about the Search and Rescue demands they anticipate for this weekend. We are aware of the expense and time many have gone through to prepare to have fun on the water this weekend, but we hope you understand that our decisions impact a broad spectrum of the maritime community, not just those of us racing.
At this time, it is still possible (even likely) that we will hold racing on Sunday, Oct. 16. We remain in communication with the USCG and will continue to monitor weather and will make a decision about Sunday racing as soon as is prudent.
If Sunday’s racing is abandoned before 10:00pm Saturday, we will attempt to email each skipper and ask skippers to notify their crew. It is possible that keeping people off the roads will be a prudent response to this storm event.
In the more likely event that our decision to abandon or postpone Sunday’s racing is made Sunday morning, please note the following provisions of the Sailing Instructions:
5 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
5.1 Signals made ashore will be made from a race committee signal boat while moored at Shilshole Marina within sight of the CYC clubhouse.
5.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore, the warning signal will be made not less than 30 minutes after the removal of AP unless at that time the race is postponed again or abandoned. This changes RRS Race Signals AP.
We do remind skippers/owners that ultimately it is their sole responsibility to participate in races at their discretion, as per the racing rules (RRS 4) and our documents. Our goal is run a safe, fair, and fun regatta, and we will do all we can to do so.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at anytime to discuss this note and once again, thank you for participating
Sail safe and have fun,
CYC Race Fleet Captain
