Okay back in time to the Galapagos. Went by Kicker Rock on our way in to San
Cristobal on our first morning in the Galapagos. An old friend, Marti Lohr who
cruised here in 1959, had told us that you could motor through the gap in the rock
but we were feeling a bit too timid to try it when we had our first look so decided
to head into port and think about it. As we continued along we ran into S/V Peace
and Aloha, a boat that had been giving us information on the radio. They were
headed to Kicker Rock so we turned around and went back with them.
We took
photos of each other with the rock in the background and then, with their
encouragement, decided to go through. There was a moment of “Are we nuts?”
right before we made the entrance and the swell lifted us up, but by then we were
already committed and through we went. Unique experience and a bit of a rush.
Felt almost like we could reach out and touch the sides of the rock. at times. Doc
and Glo we used the balls you gave us. Thanks, they helped, we think. And since
Peace and Aloha has a digital camera, you are lucky enough to see the shots.
Galapagos log is almost finished and will be in the pipeline soon. Cheers for now –
