Photos in Latitude 38

25 January 2001

Hey Everyone –

There are a couple of photos of us in the article on the Baja Ha-Ha in the December issue of Latitude 38. But as it is a bit like trying to “Find Waldo” we thought we would point you in the right direction. The article gives a good account of the event even though we are not mentioned. Oh well.

Page 122 (no actual number on the page) – Lower left photo. Find Elysium. We are the boat at the extreme right of the photo, above the caption. This was the start of Leg 2 from Turtle Bay and Suzette drove for the start. We actually did really well in the light air so this is a shot of us out ahead. We did agree that it was a good idea to let everyone motor for 5 miles to get to some wind.

Page 129 – Group photo in Cabo. Find the woman in the front row, center of the photo. She is wearing a flowered sundress and a straw hat. Her right arm is raised at a 90 degree angle, Suzette’s face is framed by her arm. Paul is just behind and to the right of Suzette as you look at the photo. There is a white cup in front of part of his face.

There is also a photo of the two girls from Chewbecca on page 117 – Kendall and Quincy. For those of you in California, Quincy is named for the town of Quincy where her parents met.

There is another group photo back in the Changes in Latitudes section – Page 213. This was the beach party in Turtle Bay. Find the dinghy at the right side of the photo. Go to the left to the gap between this dinghy and the next one. We are standing in the gap Paul near the white dinghy and Suzette just to the left as you look at the photo. She is wearing dark shorts and a light top and Paul is wearing a white t-shirt and board shorts. His arm is bent, perhaps with a beer in his hand.

Our friends from Scallywag are in a photo in the Letters section at the front of the magazine – page 34 – Keith, Kelly, Kyle and Kris. They are the ones that we spent a week and a half with exploring the Sea of Cortez.

And just a correction for those looking at the results of the Baja Ha-Ha. Our friends Wendy and Garth on Velella actually received a first place in their division at the awards ceremony in Cabo San Lucas and not a second place as indicated in the list of results.

There was also a good article on chartering a catamaran from Moorings in La Paz and to go cruising for a week or so just outside of La Paz. Talks about the proximity of the Sea of Cortez for west coast sailors and beauty of the area. Lots of great anchorages within a fairly short distance. Only hitch would be if you are there when there is a Norther and as it would be very uncomfortable and slow going getting out of La Paz. It would be a quite cruise and as there are no bars or restaurants to go to.

Hope some of you still have the December issue and sorry it took so long to get this organized and off to you. The first time I did it the file was unuseable when I tried to open it at the email place. If any one really wants a copy of the December issue they can get them from Latitude 38 for $7.00 December 2000 Volume 282 (must have this info) check or money orders only, no credit cards. 15 Locust Avenue, Mill Valley, CA 94941
