CYC Summer Sailing Camps
CYC Seattle offers an assortment of summer sailing camps and classes designed for children of many ages and abilities. Whether you want your guppy to enjoy a first time on the water or your racer to perfect roll-tacking, CYC offers a fun, safe way to share sailing with your kids.
Summer Beginner & Intermediate Learn-to-Sail
Our Learn-to-Sail camps are designed for children ranging from ages 6 to 14. We cover all the skills necessary for a child to be able to sail unassisted in a small dinghy, including safety on the water, boat nomenclature, steering, basic maneuvers, and capsize recovery. For returning students we offer intermediate topics designed to advance a young sailor’s independence and ability. One-week Learn-to-Sail camps are available from late June through most of August. These camps are full day classes, starting at 10:00 am and finishing at 4:00 pm. Students can be dropped off starting at 9:00 am and should be picked up by 5:00 pm.
For children who have completed the summer Learn-to Sail camps (or equivalent), we offer the next level of participation in the sport: Learn-to Race camp. We will offer two 1-week Learn-to Race camps this year. The focus of both weeks will be learning how to race a dinghy around a set course. We will cover the basics of starting and navigating racecourse as well as advanced boat handling topics.
During the summer we will be offering a beginning class for children ages 4 through 6. The classes will be held on Wednesday evening, from 5:00 to 7:30, every week. Classes will be centered around helping the young sailor become comfortable and confident around boats and on the water.
Open To All
Our sailing camps are open to all and CYC membership is not required to enroll or attend. A CYC Membership does provide some discounts on camp enrollment fees. (For more information on membership see the Membership Information Page.)
