Basic Race Management Seminar

THE SEMINAR AND WHO IT'S FOR
This seminar is sponsored by the US SAILING Race Management Committee and US SAILING Area L. It is designed for people with some race committee experience, and newcomers, who wish to become certified under US SAILING's race officer certification program as a US SAILING Club Race Officer.

LOCATION AND SEMINAR SCOPE
The program will be presented at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle in Seattle, Washington, and will begin at 0800 and end at 1730. The topics to be covered include race committee objectives, competition formats, sailing instructions, race committee jobs, race committee equipment, race day preparations, setting the course, starts, during the race, finishing, post-race responsibilities, and scoring.

YOUR INSTRUCTORS
The principal instructor for this seminar will be Leslie Keller. Leslie is a US SAILING Regional Race Officer and the Area H Race Officer. She will be assisted by Skip Anderson, a USCG-licensing instructor and Club Race Officer.

HOW TO PREPARE & WHAT TO EXPECT
At the seminar, you will need your own copy of the Racing Rules of Sailing ("RRS") and you will be given a copy of Join the Race Committee Team. To prepare for the seminar you should try to answer the Study Questions, available on the US SAILING web site under Basic Seminar Study Questions. Please bring the questions and your answers with you to the seminar.

The Club Race Officer Certification Test will be given at the end of the seminar and is optional. However, to be certified as a US SAILING Club Race Officer under US SAILING's race officer certification program, you must complete the basic seminar and pass the test. You will also need to have your own copy of the current US SAILING Race Management Handbook and meet the program's other criteria. An application for certification will be provided to each participant in this seminar.

SEMINAR FEES
The fees for this seminar are as follows: $50 for US SAILING members $75 for non-members Seminar fees cover continental breakfast, refreshments for an afternoon break, lunch, all seminar materials, your own copy of Join the Race Committee Team, instruction, and administration of the test.

You can register on the US SAILING web site. Click on the calendar, then search for the seminar by clicking on "Select a specific category," then "Race Admin Education - Race Officer;" then "All Future Events" and "Search." Locate this seminar, click "Register Online," and follow the directions. You can also register online at this website. To use that form you will need to enter the fee, $50 for US Sailing members, and $75 for non-members. Enter "Race management seminar" under "event."
